Museum Aberdeen

The marishal museum is the second largest granite building in the world and is situated in the grounds of the university of Aberdeen. The collections are fine art, numismatics (coins and medals), Scottish history and archaeology, European, Mediterranean and near eastern archaeology and non-western ethnography. Entry is free but has limited disabled access as it is on the second floor.

Duthie Park Gardens

Established in 1873 Duthie gardens houses the largest collection of horticulture in Europe with many rare species and impressive conservatories full of unusual collections. There is good disabled access and conducted tours can be arranged. There is a licensed restaurant.
Admission is free and Duthie Park is open 7 days a week.

Loirston Country Park

Loirston Country Park is a recreation area situated on the North Sea coast road just south of the city of Aberdeen. Paths are suitable for cycling, running and walking. Activities and events are geared towards fishing, bird-watching etc.

Doonies Farm Rare Breeds Centre

Doonies Farm has the largest collection of rare breeds in the country. This collection includes horses, cattle, pigs, goats and poultry. Doonies is found between the bay of Nigg and the cove village on the old coast road. There is a children’s play area and picnic area.

Castle Fraser

Castle Fraser built by between 1575 and 1636 is located in Inverurie. It holds corporate and wedding functions as well as operating guided tours around one of the finest castles in the area. It houses 17 century works of art and its grounds has a tea room, picnic site and an adventure playground. Telephone 01330 833463.

Drum Castle

Drum castle is possible one o the oldest castles in Scotland and is on the itinery of the Chatelaine’s Scottish Castles trail. It was bequeathed to the National trust by the 24 Laird of Drum in 1975, Henry Quentin Forbes Irvine having been in the Irvine family for longer than 650 years. The Castle of Drum houses superb furnishings and paintings. The tower dates from the 11th Century and later additions to the castle include a medieval keep and a Jacobean mansion house. There are extensive grounds and gardens, a children’s play area and a tearoom. The Castle is open daily from April to September and the Gardens remain open throughout the year.

Story Book Glen Theme Park

Balmedie Country and Beach Park

Balmedie Country Park is on the Aberdeen coast north of Aberdeen. There is large area of Beach with boardwalk access over the sands. As well Children’s play area and picnic tables are a relaxing way to enjoy the park which is open all year round during the hours of daylight. Admission is free but there are parking charges throughout the summer months.
